Mrs. Delphia Brown Miller was born April 24, 1874 at Malcom, Iowa, the daughter of Elvina Newland and James V, Brown. She came to Buchanan county at the age of 12 and made her home with an aunt and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Craig, in Middlefield township. She was the last surviving member of the first eight grade class to graduate from Winthrop school. She attended Lenox college to Hopkinton and taught in rural schools.
On Nov. 30, 1893 she married Samuel I. Miller and lived most of her married life on a farm in Liberty township. Mr. Miller died August 31 1931.
They were the parents of six children: J. V. who died July 12, 1898; Orin, Nilo, Nona (Mrs. Howard Beebe), Mary Agnes (Mrs. Earl Walgamot) all of Independence and Corrine (Mrs. Maurice Sherren) of Winthrop. She is also survived by ten grandchildren and seven grandchildren.
Mrs. Miller died on Friday, May 25, at the L. M. N. nursing home in Hazleton at the age of 82.
Funeral services were held on May 27 and burial was in Wilson Cemetery. The Rev. Harry Erpelding officiated.
