Dr Lester A Stevenson

Death takes doctor, 87. On Birthday

Dr Lester Alanson Stevenson Salt Lake surgeon and former Chief of Staff at the Latter Day Saints Hospital died Thursday morning at home, 5160 Highland Dr. (1970 East) of causes incident to age.

He died on his 87th birthday. Dr Stevenson was graduated from the University of Utah in 1901 and received his M.D. from Northwestern University in 1910. having done graduate work at the Mayo Clinic and the University of Vienna. He was a member of the Phi Beta Phi Medical Fraternity. In 1937 Dr Stevenson was president of the Salt Lake County Medical Society and in 1946 president of the Utah State Medical Assn. In about 1940 Dr Stevenson was named my Northwestern University as one of its outstanding graduates. He lectured at the University of Utah from 1919 to 1922.



A native of Salt Lake City Dr Stevenson was born Aug 10, 1874 to Edward and Emily Williams Stevenson.

He married Bertha Ester Starley Dec 17, 1902 in the Salt Lake Temple, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.. She died Oct 17 1957.


Survivors include sons and daughters. Mrs Reed E (Maurine) Holt, Mrs. Walter J. (Elaine) Michelsen, Dr Vernon L Stevenson, Dr Elbert Stevenson, Dr J Victor Stevenson, Mrs Betty S. Allen, all of Salt Lake, Claudius E. Stevenson, Payson, Mrs Robert F. (Ester) Snedden, Walbut Creek, California. Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at 260 E South Temple. Burial will be in the Salt Lake Cemetary.
