Nelson Collins (31)was the son of Joshua Collins(Jr.) and Almira. He was a farmer and then a Union Soldier during the Civil War. He married Eunice A. from New York They lived in Iowa Falls Iowa. On Oct. 7. 1861, at the age of 31 he enlisted the 12th Regiment Iowa Infantry, in the war of the rebellion...Mustered Oct. 17, 1861. Missing in battle April
6, 1862, where he was wounded and taken prisioner during the Battle of Shiloh, TN along the Tennessee River (Pittsburg landing.) 20,000 combined soldiers died in that battle when the Confederate army attack the Union army led by Grant. In the end the Union won the battle, nevertheless Nelson Collins was taken prisoner.
He died of fever May 9, 1862, St. Louis, Mo
