6, 1862, where he was wounded and taken prisioner during the Battle of Shiloh, TN along the Tennessee River (Pittsburg landing.) 20,000 combined soldiers died in that battle when the Confederate army attack the Union army led by Grant. In the end the Union won the battle, nevertheless Nelson Collins was taken prisoner.
He died of fever May 9, 1862, St. Louis, Mo
