Gladys Spears Risinger
1914 - 2011
A resident of San Antonio for over 80 years, Gladys was born at home in Wilson County, the fourth of the six children of Wade and Mary Spears, Gladys moved to San Antonio after high school and became a licensed cosmetologist. She married Richard "Pat" Risinger in 1937 and had five children who grew up in Austin and San Antonio. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years in 1982 and by their eldest son, Robert R. (Lois) Risinger, in 2009 in Santa Monica, California. Her surviving children are Betty (Terry) Dunbar of Hermosa Beach, California, Pat C. (Sandie) Risinger of Sealy, Texas, Mil Avery of Allen, Texas, and Dee Risinger of Mineral, Virginia, 11 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren. Two of her grandchildren preceded her in death. She is also survived by one sister, Mary Jayne Jackson, of Kingwood, Texas and 12 nieces and nephews.
Gladys was the beautiful Elizabeth Arden representative at Frost Bros. until her retirement at 65. She enjoyed traveling in Europe, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and in the U.S. where she enjoyed meeting family in national parks Gladys was a dear daughter, mother, sister, aunt, grandma, and friend of many. She is well loved and will be missed by all.
