James P. Bobbitt was the son of Maggie J. and William P. Bobbitt of Charlottesville, Virginia. He had lived in New York for seven years and in Washington D.C. for fifteen years, prior to moving to New York. James was 38 years old when he died after a short illness in Bellevue Hospital, New York City.

He was survived by his mother Maggie and his two sisters Bertha (and Jessie) Britton of Charlottesville and Emily (and Adolph) Volkmann of Washington, D.C. His funeral was held in the home of his sister Bertha Britton.

James had two daughters, Mildred and Katherine Bobbitt of Washington, D.C.

His obituary was found in The Daily Progress of Charlottesville, Virginia, in the Saturday edition, 23 Jul 1932 (page 7, Column3)
