As a small boy, he moved to Texas with his family and married Emily P. Bates July 11, 1866. To this union were born eleven children, 7 girls and 4 boys, six of which
passed on before him.
"Gilbert" made the land run in Oklahoma in 1889 and settled on a claim six miles from Oklahoma City spending most of the rest of his life in Oklahoma.
After spending the last few years of his life with his daughter Mrs. Louvenia Raibourn in Seiling and Chickasha,Oklahoma he died in Chickasha at the age of 94 years.
