Emma Wise had been helping to care for the household of John Tannahill when his wife, Josephine Juliette died. Three years later on Jan 29, 1885, John married Emma and she took over the raising of John's three little girls. In 1890, they had a little boy, Artemiss, and later another little girl, Mary Eloise. Little Artie died when he was about 2 mos. old of pneumonia and Emma, from that time on was always afraid that another of the children would sucumb to the same thing. The dry years came in Nebraska and finally John heard of homesteads...free land for only $10 per 60 acres in Canada. He took his family and went to Canada.
