Terre Haute Tribune- February 22, 1906 Page 2 Boy Accidentally Shot While Out Hunting Two Youngsters Go Hunting Near Riley and One Gets Bullet in Leg - Not Seriously Injured Thorman Brenton, a 12 - year old boy who lives near Riley, the little town south of Terre Haute, was shot in the leg Wednesday afternoon while out hunting with a companion about his age, a son of Charles Stevens. The Brenton lad was not seriously injured. The boys had gone out in the fields with a rifle and were walking along beside a rail fence. The Stevens boy with a rifle on one side, and the Brenton boy on the other side. The latter saw a bird and his companion attempted to pass the rifle through the fence. The trigger caught on a rail and the gun was discharged, the bullet striking the Brenton boy in the leg. The wound is not regarded as serious.

Ferman was shot on February 20, 1906 and died on February 21, 1906. His hunting companion was possibly a first cousin, Pearl Stephens,(FAG 69033795) son of Charles Stephens and only a year older than Ferman.

Gravesite Details

The cemetery confirmed Ferman is buried in the old section of Oak Hill, but he has no headstone and they don't know exactly where people are buried in the old section of the cemetery.
