Billie Gillespie Shafer born August 26, 1925 to Luther Kay Baird and Bernice Lorene Beavers, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, April 14, 2020 in Tyler, Texas. She was 94 years old.
A private graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2020 at Resthaven Cemetery in Jacksonville, Texas with Pastor Steve Edwards, Central Baptist Church, officiating. Services are under the direction of Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
Viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, April 17, 2020 at Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville.
Billie worked with her first husband Coke in their business, International Fashions, during the late 60's and early 70's. For many years following, she worked for Beall's General Offices as administrative secretary and in the 90's she held a position as administrative assistant during three successive presidents' terms at Lon Morris College.
Billie was active in the choir at Central Baptist Church for 50 years as well as a member of Mary Martha Class, leaving behind many long-time friends. She has also been an active member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
She was preceded in death by her first husband of 60 years, Coke L. Gillespie, and her recent husband of six years, Thomas L. Shafer.
Left to cherish her memory are her four children, Leslie Ann Harbin and husband Larry of Aubrey, TX; Tim Gillespie and wife Cheryl of Tyler; Ellen Waller and husband Bill of Tyler; and Tony Gillespie and partner Joanna Howard of Plano. She has one sister Tawana Kay Cox of Argyle, Texas. She is also survived by grandchildren Bridgette Mauritzen, Becky Merchant and husband Derek, Stefan Jones and husband Matt, Ryan Gillespie and wife Danae, Collin Gillespie, Graham Gillespie, Ryan Davis and wife Morgan, Brian Paine and wife Amanda, Stephen Paine, Austin Gillespie and wife Stacie, and Cassie Sarrabia and husband Ray; as well as 13 great-grandchildren
