Mr. Lair was born Nov. 16, 1923, in Portland. He graduated from Columbia Prep and the University of Portland. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific. He moved to Seattle in 1957. In 1961, he co-founded Lair-Swanson Inc., a building products company, where he worked until retiring in 1985. In 1946, he married Betty Andresen.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Molly McCullough and Sally Hooker; son, Jeffrey; sisters, Bernice Seidl and Tessie Pliska; and six grandchildren.
