Alexander Fields died Friday morning at his home in the northeast part of town after weeks of suffering from a cancer of the spleen.
Funeral services were at the M. E. church Sunday afternoon, the funeral party being escorted by a large number of Red Men. The opening prayer was by Rev. David Hadley, of the Friends church. Rev. McFall read the scripture lesson and G. R. Scruggs delivered the funeral sermon. Rev. Ricketts of M. E. church offered the closing prayer after which the body was taken to the Mooresville cemetery where the Red Men performed the last sad rites with their beautiful and impressive funeral ceremony.
Mr. Fields was 56 years of age, was a brick and stone mason by trade and is survived by a widow and one daughter, Mrs. Edwin Dailey.
Joel Alexander Fields was the son of David Pinkney Fields and Luticia Malinda Larrow.
He married Rosa Lee Bain August 10, 1891 in Morgan County, Indiana. She was the daughter of Jonathan B. Bain and Harriett Browner Bain.
Alex and Rosa had one daughter, June M. Fields Dailey.
