Gloria Elizabeth Etherton died Sunday, March 28, 2004 at Memorial Hospital at Easton. She was 74 years old. She was born to the late Charles Howard and Beatrice Murray Timanus on Jan. 6, 1930 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Baltimore. A graduate of Eastern High School, she went on to graduate from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Baltimore in 1953. Gloria pursued her nursing career at St. Joseph’s Hospital as a surgical nurse and later at Easton Memorial Hospital as a critical care nurse until her retirement in 1987. In April 1955, Gloria married the Reverend Donald F. Etherton, her grade school sweetheart. They enjoyed a long, loving life together until May 2000 with the passing of “Father Don.” Gloria devoted her entire life to her husband’s ministry, her children, her extended family and her beloved community of St. Michaels. She was known as “Mother E” and” Mom-Mom” to many of her children’s friends and later, her grandchildren’s friends. Gloria took great pride in serving Christ Episcopal Church, St. Michaels and its surrounding community for over 30 years. Over the years, some of her community service included PTA Office, School Remedial Reading Volunteer, Talbot County Board of Education, Boy and Girl Scout Leader, Nurse for Diocese of Easton’s Camp Wright, implemented and directed the Talbot County Swim Safety Program for Underprivileged Youth, Court Appointed Special Advocate Program Volunteer, Hospice Volunteer and so much more. She also came to love the parish of St. John’s Chapel in Cornersville, where she served on the vestry. Gloria is survived by her five children, Deborah Etherton Keller of St. Michaels, Jeffrey H. Etherton of Salisbury, Mary Beth Massari of Ellicott City, Daniel E. Etherton of Neavitt and Michael D. Etherton of Silver Spring; and her nine grandchildren, Christian, Caitlin, Cameron, Benjamin, Brittany, Chelsea, Ian, Justin and Lauren. A memorial celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, March 31, at Christ Episcopal Church, St. Michaels, at 12 noon. The Right Rev. James Shand, Episcopal Bishop of Easton, will be the celebrant, with the Reverends Mark and Abigail Nestlehutt assisting. Memorial donations may be made to Christ Episcopal Church Capital Campaign for Etherton Hall, P.O. Box S, St. Michaels, Md. 21663. Arrangements are by R.
