From the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Thursday, February 19, 1914, p. 2:

Stricken with apoplexy at 1 o'clock Wednesday, W. E. Flood, 52, died at the family residence, 1214 Fifth avenue, at 11 o'clock Wednesday night. He apparently was in good health on Wednesday morning and was downtown most of Tuesday.

Flood was a resident of Fort Worth for seven years and had been in the shoe business since his youth. For the last year he was a member of the Ritter-Flood Company, 805 Houston street. He is survived by his wife, two sons, Thomas 5, Will 3 and one daughter, Frances 8. Two brothers, R. E. Flood of Fort Worth and Fred Flood of Milford, also survive.

Born in Harris, Ark., Dec. 21, 1862, Flood spent his early childhood there. At an early age he engaged in the shoe business and followed that line until his death. He married Miss Lillian Sanders of Paris, Texas.

Funeral services will be conducted from the family residence at 2 o'clock Friday by Rev. John A. Rice, pastor of the First Methodist church. Burial will follow in Greenwood cemetery.

All the shoe stores in the city will close Friday afternoon in order that the employes may attend the funeral. The active pallbearers will be P. T. Maben, L. E. Langston, H. Q. Humphries, J. T. Taylor, H. T. Compton and R. G. Worrell.

From the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Friday, February 20, 1914, p. 20:

Flood died Wednesday night, following a stroke of apoplexy. He was a member of the Ritter-Flood Company, 805 Houston street. Rev. John A. Rice conducted the services. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery.
