Elizabeth Barker daughter of Issac and Sarah Barker, was born near Mt. Zion, Iowa, November 18, 1840.
She passed away at the home of her son Clayton, near Kilbourne, July 11, 1921, aged 80 years, 7 months and 23 days.
January 19, 1876, she was united in marriage to Wm. Sherod, who preceded her in death September 4, 1909.
Eight children were born to this union; one, William, dying in infancy, and Charles O., who was killed in Nevada by a runaway team when about 24 years of age.
She is survived by one step-son, Boardman Sherod, to whom she was a real mother, and six children: Zadie E. Jackson, Mary A. Syfert, Ella Forbes, and Sena F. Topping, all residing near Birmingham; Amos Sherod of Valley Junction, Iowa, and Clayton Sherod of Kilbourne; also half brother Joe Ford of Troy, Iowa, half-sister Anna Rogers of Pulaski, Iowa. She is also survived by twenty-three grandchildren and eleven great-grand children.
She will also be mourned by numerous relatives and friends, to whom she was known as "Aunt Lib." To know her was to love her, as her chief aim in life was to serve others, old and young, rich and poor were welcomed and entertained in the home of this good woman.
At an early age she became a member of the Mt. Zion Presbyterian church, of which she was a loyal and faithful member until called to her reward.
Her entire life has been spent in the vicinity of her birth.
For the past three years she has been in declining health, and lovingly cared for by her son and his wife, with when she made her home since the death of her husband.
