Martin D. "Pete" Fox, 60 years old, died on Thursday July 21, 2011 surrounded by his loving family, after fighting a courageous battle with ALS. He was born Oct, 3, 1950 in Leominster, son of Elizabeth (Marshall) Simmons now of ME and the late Marvin Fox. He was educated in Norfolk Agricultural School. He has been retired for many years. Pete was very proud of having served in the United States Marine Corps., during the Viet Nam War. He was a very active member of the DAV Chapter # 57 of Taunton, having been treasurer, coordinator of Forget-Me-Not fundraising campaign, participating in the Chapters activities at the Brockton Veterans Medical Center and also a delegate to the Department Executive Committee. Pete was a member of the National Order of Trench Rats Dugout 622. He was a treasurer, Sergeant at Arms and Officer of the Day with District Council 7. He was an active member of the ROMEOs (real old men eating out) which is a monthly gathering of veterans at a local breakfast eatery to share stories of the past. Pete also coached for many years for the Taunton Girls Softball League and he loved to travel with his family. He is survived, besides his mother, by his loving wife of 40 years, Christine (Cheverie) Fox. He was the very proud father of Lisa Dernoga and her husband John and Erin Braga and her husband Thomas, all of Taunton and his very good buddy, pride and joy, his grandson Justin Dernoga also of Taunton. He was the brother of Marvin Donald Fox and his wife Vickie of SC and Michael Fox and his wife Elizabeth of Easton, Marsha Greene and her husband Michael of ME and the late Marshall Fox. He was the son-in- law of Marshall Bud Cheverie of Taunton and the late Marguerite Cheverie. Pete was also the brother-in-law and uncle of several. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service in the Crapo-Hathaway Funeral Home, 350 Somerset Ave., ( Rte. 138 South), Taunton on Monday July 25, at 8:30 a.m. followed by an interment service at the Massachusetts National Cemetery at 10:45 a.m. Visiting hours on Sunday from 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Petes memory may be made to DAV Chapter 57 Administrative Fund, P.O.
