Addison, N.Y. — Oneta died on Sunday, April 25, 2010, at the Geneva Living Center in Geneva surrounded by her loving family.

A “Celebration of Life” for Oneta Mae Wingate, 85, of West Front Street, Addison will take place on June 12, 2010, at 1:00 pm in the Addison Rural Cemetery with Rev. Sandra Olmstead officiating.

She was born in Athens, PA, the daughter of Cora and John Boyer and was lovingly raised by her adoptive parents, Edna and Bert Smith.

As a child, Oneta tap danced at the Bath VA, area theatres and in school plays. She played Topsy in Uncle Tom's Cabin. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Addison, the Order of Eastern Star (Tuscarora - Woodhull Chapter) where she had been a past Matron, Eagle Club, and a life member of the Flint Glass Workers Union 1000. She had been a scout leader for 8 years.

Oneta married Edward Wingate, Jr. in 1942 and was preceded in death by him in 1988. She retired in 1983 as a silk screen developer for Corning Glass Works, and received her 50 year service pin in 2003. She loved her family and spending time with her grandson.

Oneta played the piano and saxophone, and played games with friends.

Oneta is survived by one daughter, Sylvia (Louis) Dominick of Branchport, NY, and one son, Edward (Cheryl) Wingate III of Brockport, NY. She also has one grandson, Nicholas Dominick; a great grandson, Jordan Dominick; special friends, Kathleen Enderle and Jane Murphy of Addison. Oneta was preceded in death by several siblings.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Flint Funeral Home in Addison.
