In November 1849 she married Johann Friedrich Wilke and they had a son Heinrich Wilhelm Wilke. In 1881 after the death of her second husband she traveled with her son Gerhard to America as Maria Oberböster. She lived near Cleveland with her son and his family, and was visited occasionally by her son Henry who lived in Defiance County, Ohio. Why Mary choose to live as Boester is as baffling as is the fact that her son Henry also chose to use the name Boester in America.
