Evelyn Carolyn Britain, 83, of Amarillo died Thursday, April 17, 2003.
Private burial was Friday in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Britain was born Nov. 23, 1919, in Ramona, Okla. She moved to Amarillo in 1931.
She graduated from Amarillo High School and Texas Tech University.
She married David Wessling Britain Jr. on Dec. 19, 1941, in Camp Wallace. Fred E. Andrews, 33rd Engineer Battalion Chaplain, officiated at their wedding.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Amarillo for more than 70 years. She had been a very active member of the PEO for more than 50 years. She was also a longtime member of Panhandle Plains Historical Society.
She kept the home fires burning while her husband served in World War II and Korea and while her eldest son David served two tours in Vietnam.
She was preceded in death by her husband on May 15, 1982.
Survivors include three sons, David Wessling Britain III of Chattanooga, Tenn., William Wallace Britain and Mark Stephen Britain, both of Amarillo; three grandchildren, William Lane Britain, Lee Wessling Britain and Nicholas David Britain; and treasured lifelong friend, Helen Hutcheon.
The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorials be to Panhandle Plains Historical Society, WT Box 60967, Canyon, TX 79016.
