Dell W. Manone, 89, of Hellertown died peacefully Monday, February 7, 2011 at the St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill. He is the husband of Rose E. (Rayni) Manone.
Born in Hellertown on July 28, 1921 to the late Louis and Frances (Tarsi) Manone. Dell worked at the former Western Electric, Allentown until retiring in 1983. He served this country honorably during WWII in the Merchant Marines; a member of Church of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus, Hellertown,Holy Name Society and the Senior Citizens of the Church; and Edward H. Ackerman Post 397 - Hellertown. He played for the former Hellertown Steelers (semi pro basketball) in the Penn Jersey League in the 1940's and coached Boy's Basketball for 20 years for the St. Theresa's CYO Team. Dell was an avid sports fan, enjoying Lehigh University Wrestling, the NY Yankees and Florida State Seminoles.
Survivors: In addition to his loving wife of 63 years; daughters: Jean L., Rita R. Frey both of Bethlehem, Roseann M. wife of Thomas R. Yencer of Thonotosassa, FL, Donna M. wife of David B. Johnson of Fountain Hill; brother: Dr. Carl J. Manone and his wife Dani of Easton and Destin, FL; 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Predeceased by a brother, Anthony "Nello" and a sister, Sister Adelgisa.
Services: Family and friends are invited to call 11:30 – 12:30 p.m. Thursday, February 10, 2011 at the Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc. 326 Main Street - Hellertown followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. at the church, 1408 Easton Road, Hellertown. The interment will conclude services at Union Cemetery of Hellertown.
