IOWA FALLS-Clyde Wallace Caselton, 67, of Iowa Falls, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls, following a heart attack at his church. Services will be held Thursday, Nov. 30, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church, Iowa Falls, with burial in the Friends Cemetery, Iowa Falls. Rev. Stephen Acheson will officiate. Military honors will be provided by the United States Army, the Iowa Army National Guard, and the Hyman-Peavey American Legion Post No. 188 of Iowa Falls. Visitation will be Wednesday, Nov. 29 from 12- 8 p.m. at Linn's Funeral Home in Iowa Falls, with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. There will be a prayer service at 8 p.m. An Educational Memorial Fund has been established and memorials may be sent in care of his wife, Stella Caselton, 1718 Washington Ave., Iowa Falls.
Clyde was born May 14, 1933, at Sioux City, to Wallace and Maybelle Barboe Caselton. He graduated from Sioux City High School in 1951. On June 14, 1958, he married Stella Lee Nelson at Hayden, Mo. He graduated from Northeast Louisiana University in 1972, and served in the United States Army from 1952-58; in the United States Air Force from 1958-62; and again in the Army from 1977-1983, retiring with the rank of Sergeant First Class. He was employed by the Department of Defense as a budgeting and accounting clerk for the MEPS in Des Moines until retiring and moving to Iowa Falls in 1993. He was ordained as minister of the Church of God in 1967 in Ira, Texas, and served from 1993-99 as pastor of the First Church of God in Iowa Falls. He had served in many areas including churches in Des Moines, Clinton, Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, and Mississippi.
He was a member of the Civilian Club and past governor of the Minowa District; a past president and secretary of the Iowa Falls Lions Club; past Noble Grand of the Order of the Odd Fellows; a member of Hyman-Peavey American Legion Post No. 188 where he was serving as Chaplain; life member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post No. 8708; and a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans; a live member of the National Association of Uniform Services; and a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America.
He is survived by his wife, Stella, of Iowa Falls; four daughters, Beth Mathiesen of Savanna, Tenn., Dawn Dalton and husband, Delbert, of Clinton, Lora Rheuport of Iowa Falls, and Toni Hansen and husband, Toney O'Neal of Des Moines; 11 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a sister, Maria Rueda of Omaha, Neb. He was preceded in death by his parents.
