Funeral services for Mrs J S McKenzie Sr. Mrs McKenzie died at 9? Friday night July 3 1936 after an illness of several years duration. Her death was preceded by that of her husband J S McKenzie Sr by little more than three weeks Mr McKenzie having passed away on June 9th. Before her marriage Mrs McKenzie was Leila Tillman grew daughter of the late Joseph Edward Pettigrew of Florence for many years a leader in the educational political and religious life of this section. Her mother was Fannie Tillman of Wadesboro N C whose family was one of prominence in both the Carolinas. Leila was born on January 9 1868. On Sept 28 1888 she was married to Joseph Saunders McKenzie. Throughout their life together Mr and Mrs McKenzie endeared themselves to scores of friends by the unexcelled hospitality of their home and their warm-hearted friendliness and became an inspiration to all who knew them through the beauty of their home life and their devotion to each other. During a life remarkably beautiful in every relationship Mrs McKenzie was known as a woman of rare personal charm and talent. Every aspect of her life reflected a nobility of soul which found its visible counterpart in a ing Christian faith a life of devotion to Christian ideals and a keen love for and appreciation of beauty in every form. Mrs McKenzie is survived by one daughter Mrs W Marshall Bridges of Florence and by two sons W C McKenzie of Hamlet N C and J S McKenzie Jr of Florence and by one sister Mrs T O Lee of Florence and three brothers J A Pettigrew and J E Pettigrew of Florence and Rev George R Pettigrew of Chappells S C She is also survived by the following grandchildren Mai McKenzie Bridges, Billy Marshall Bridges, and Saunders McKenzie Bridges
