COLUMBUS, GA - Vercie Walker Delay, 94 of Columbus died Sunday, December 12, 2010 at Magnolia Manor.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at Piney Grove Baptist Church, corner of River Road and Hwy 315, Fortson, GA with Rev. Mickey Adams officiating. Interment will follow in the Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 till 2 P.M. at the church prior to the service, according to McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA.
Vercie Estelle Cornell was born September 11, 1916 to the late David and Rachel Joiner Cornell in Hardin County, Illinois. She was employed by the State of Illinois and also practiced as a licensed beautician for many years in Illinois. She moved to Georgia in 1987 to be near her son and family. Vercie was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. She served as a teacher, was a member of the Primetimers senior group of many years and loved her church family.
Ms. Delay was preceded in death by her husbands Russell Aubrey Walker in 1957 and Cecil Delay in 1977.
