Born the illegitimate son of John Owen Dominis, Prince Consort of the Hawaiian Islands and his mistress Mary Purdy Lamiki Aimoku, John Dominis Aimoku was adopted in 1910 by Lili'uokalani, Queen of the Hawaiian Island, who changed his name to John Aimoku Dominis. He married Sybil Frances McInerny on June 19, 1911 in "Washington Palace", Honolulu, Hawaii. They were the parents of three children: 1) John Owen Dominis (1912 - 1933); 2) Sybil Francis Kaolaokalani O Lilukalani Dominis (1914 - 1998); and 3) Virginia Beatrice Kauhanenuiohonokawailani Dominis (1916 - 2007).
