From Patsy Robertson-
According to the Alabama, U.S. Deaths and Burials Index 1881-1974, Ida Vasser Shelton's mother was Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Nichols. However, in the 1870 census, Ida is three months old and the only other female in the household is 22 year old, Mary Vasser. One would assume Mary Vassar was the mother of Ida Vassar. Mary Vassar is not in the 1880 census and Ida's daddy, John Vassar, is shown as a widower.
