W. R. CAHILL IS CALLED BY DEATH
COMMUNITY SADDENED WHEN TOLD OF HIS PASSING
WAS IDEAL CITIZEN
Deceased Operated Lumber Yard in Janesville for Many Years

Janesville and the surrounding community were saddened to hear of the death of William Richard Cahill, highly respected business man, on Monday, October 25. His death occurred at 12:15 P. M. Mr. Cahill was taken ill about three weeks ago when he was later taken to the St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. On Thursday he was brought home and Monday he passed away. Death was due to complications incident to old age.
William Richard Cahill was born November 18, 1860, in Janesville Township, the son of Thomas and Mary Cahill and would have been 77 years of age had he lived until November 18. Mr. Cahill attended the rural schools of his community, and since leaving the occupation of farming, has spent the remainder of his life time in the lumber business. Until his recent illness he continued to look after his business as usual.
In addition to his activities in public life and business circles, Mr. Cahill was a member of several fraternal orders. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, the Hibernians and the Knight of Columbus, and at one time was a member of the local School Board.
Of the life and character of Mr. Cahill, we may speak in terms of highest praise. In short, he was a big-hearted, noble, upright, generous business man, whose motives were never questioned and whose every act was above reproach. As a mark of respect to the deceased, all business houses were closed during the hour of the funeral.
On September 1, 1897, he was married to Ada Byron at the Catholic Church in St. Mary. One son, Bertrand, and a daughter, Elizabeth, preceded their father in death. Three sons, Eugene, of Mankato, Dr. George B. and Paul at home, and two daughters, Annunciata and Cecelia R., with their mother, survive. Two grandchildren, Patricia and William Cahill, of Mankato, and one brother, Edward Cahill, of Janesville, also survive.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday morning at 8 o'clock from St. Ann's Church with Father Walter Byron, nephew of the deceased, officiating. Pallbearers were: M. W. Keeley, James McIver, James McBride, Thos. Nicholson, John Burke and William Campion. Interment was made in St. Ann's cemetery.
Among those from away who came to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Hauer, Mrs. F. J. Boulger, Mrs. Patrick Foy and Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Gmeinder, St. Paul; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Schaleben, Minneapolis; J. E. Hennessy, Excelsior; Mr. and Mrs. Chris Eustice and Wm. Zimmerman, Waldorf; Rev. Earl Byron, Albert Roemer and Mr. Hines, Mankato; Frank Conway, Mike Broderick, John Bowers, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Byron, Mr. and Mrs. James Byron, Miss Julia Byron, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Byron, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. E. Byron, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Byron, Ray Byron, Dr. and Mrs. John F.
