Howard Dorland Brown
This community of West Winfield
was saddened Tuesday night, April
2nd, when the news came that Howard
Brown had passed away in a Utica
hospital, where he had been operated
a little over a week ago, following an
injury sustained while playing in the
school room with some friends.
Howard Dorland Brown was born
March 8, 1913, son of William and
Florence Brown, who survive, together
with two sisters, Elizabeth
Angeline, and Janet Wanzer Brown;
two grandmothers, Mrs. A. W. Brown
and Mrs. Elizabeth Howard; besides
a number of uncles and cousins.
Howard was one of our choicest and
promising young men, a leader in the
various circles in which he turned.
His character was unblemished and
his life has been an object lesson to
all who knew him.
He was a student in the second year
at West Winfield High school; Treasurer
of the Young Banners' Club of
Winfield; member of the Boy Scouts;
was a prominent member of the Otsego
County 4-H Club and had won
several prizes at fairs, including the
State Fair, and also represented the
Club, in the Otsego county Dairy
Council;^he was a faithful member
and head usher of the local Baptist
church, and President of the Christian
Endeavor Society.
The funeral was held from his late
home, Saturday at 2 o'clock, his pastor,
the Rev. R. W. Roberts officiated.
Donald Green, Allen Pomeroy,
Ernest Rogers, Russell Brown, Carlton
Gates and Ralph Richarges acted
as pall bearers; a quartet of girls,
Marion Rogers, Leona Pugh, Evelyn
Jones and Marjorie Roberts rendered
two selections.
Interment was in the local cemetery.
Sincere sympathy is extended the
family in their great sorrow.
