U.S. Congressman. He attended Albion Normal College Illinois, Transylvania University Kentucky and taught school in Illinois, (1890-93). Moving to Colorado, in 1894, he was editor- publisher of the Canon City Daily, the Weekly Records, Postmaster of Canon City, (1900-04) and president of the National Editorial Association, (1918-19). In 1919, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-sixth Congress and to the next six succeeding Congresses, serving until 1933. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed his former publishing pursuits until his death at age 74.
