FRITCH - Winford Junior "Windy" Bethel, 87, died Tuesday, July 19, 2011.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Assembly of God in Borger. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Cemetery in Borger by Brown Funeral Directors.

Windy was born June 8, 1924, in Wellington to George and Ruth Boshart Bethel. He married Betty Jane Smith on June 20, 1947, at First Assembly of God in Borger.

He served his country as a member of the U.S. Army, serving from 1944 to 1946 in the New Guinea conflict and receiving the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal and Bronze Arrowhead. He retired from CIG in 1988. He also was a member of First Assembly of God. He loved his church family and the staff at The Plaza Restaurant.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Betty Jane, on Sept. 3, 2005.

Survivors include a son, Georg Bethel of Fritch; two daughters, Linda Roden and husband Travis of Borger and Kay Lynn Thomas and husband David of Kansas; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Thursday at the funeral home.
