John P. Ryan Dies After Long Illness

John P. Ryan well known resident of Sycamore vicinity passed away on Saturday afernoon at his home at 737 Park Avenue. He had been in failing health for sometime, his condition rapidly growing more serious during the last few days of his life.
The decedent was the son of Michael Ryan and Adeline Lakin and was born in Maple Park on May 28, 1868. He was united in marriage to Mary Genevieve Winterhalter in October of 1893. To this union were born five sons and three daughters namely Leo J. Ryan of Elburn; Walter H. Ryan of Tacoma, Washington; John W. Ryan of Sycamore; Robert J. Ryan of DeKalb and David Ryan, who died in childhood, Miss Genevieve Ryan who is at home, Mrs. Alice Gordon of Sterling and Mrs. Florence Overton of Plato Center.
Mr. Ryan was engaged in farming for many years near Sycamore and since his retirement some seventeen years ago, has made his home in this city. He was a devoted father and kind neighbor and friend and has been a member of the local St. Mary's church for years.
Besides his children he is survived by three sisters, the Misses Eliza and Addie Ryan of DeKalb and Mrs. Frank Kline of Pierce, also by 16 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Four brothers predeceased him, James, William, Joseph and Charles Ryan.
The funeral services were held this Tuesday morning at 9:00 o'clock from the Kebil Funeral Home and at 9:30 o'clock from St. Mary's church here with the Father Peter S. Masterson in charge. Interment took place in the Mt. Carmel cemetery. The Rosary was recited on Monday evening at the Funeral Home.
