"Death Takes Aged Pastor
"Clergyman Served In Probation Office
"Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 P.M. in Little Chapel of the Chimes for Rev. P.O. Bonebrake, 77, retired United Brethren clergyman, college president, state representative, and circuit court clerk, who dropped dead Tuesday night at his home at 6715 N. E. Rodney avenue.
"Mr. Bonebrake was born in Gosport, IA, October 6, 1864. He was Graduated from Bonebrake seminary, named for his grandfather and five granduncles, all of whom were United Brethren ministers, in 1892. Shortly after his graduation he went to west Africa to serve as principal of Rufus Clark training school, a position he held only a short time before he contracted a tropical fever and returned to the United States.
"He came to Portland in 1916 as pastor of First United Brethren church, but resigned in 1919 to join the county clerk's staff. He became clerk of the court of domestic relations in 1921. Later he served as probation officer.
"Many Pastorates Held
"In 1930 he became pastor of Alberta United Brethren church. He also served as interim pastor for Piedmont and Smith Memorial Presbyterian churches for a time. He was district superintendent for the United Brethren church for a time.
"Among other pastorates were those in Spokane, Hood River, Eugene, Denver and Philomath. He twice served as president of Philomath college, now defunct. He also served for a time as president of Campbell college in Kansas. He also once was principal of Hellman Street school in Los Angeles.
"Mr. Bonebrake represented Benton county in the state legislature in 1909, 1911 and 1913.
"Survivors include five sons, Harold, Donald, John, all of Portland; Dewalt of Nevada City, Cal., and Dr. Hubert Bonebrake of Wallace, Idaho; three sisters (ed. daughters), Mrs. Chester P. Merklin and Mrs. Leonard C. Briody, both of Portland, and Mrs. R. F. Bueermann of Oakland, and 16 grandchildren.
"Internment will be in Riverview Cemetery."
