Horace was a farmer and raised sheep. Later he sold his interests in Utah and moved to Mexico. There he was a financier, but lost heavily when they were driven out of Mexico.

Horace and Martha had 6 children: Cora Centennia Fairbanks, Ethel Estella, William W., Czara Allen, Martha Jane and Emma May.
