The family will receive friends on Monday, July 25th, 4 p.m. at Overton Funeral Home, Indianola, with a Celebration of Life service at 6:30 p.m.
Betty was born in Indianola on October 28, 1927 to Zelmer and Zelma Ackley where she lived her entire life. She worked many years as a secretary in various positions but her most accomplished joy was her Kiddie Kare Day Care Center that she ran in her home for over 30 years.
On April 5, 1947 she was united in marriage to Louis Lathrum. Betty and Lou lived in Indianola and raised their 4 children in their same home for over 50 years.
Betty enjoyed sporting events and she and her friends were active for years with the Indianola Athletic Booster Club. She loved to travel and visit her family in California and Arizona and participated in family vacations at the Lake of the Ozarks, MO. Her most memorable trips were a cruise to the Mediterranean Sea and a trip to Hawaii. She most recently traveled with her family to Jamaica for a week of fun in the sun and Betty was a member of the "Red Hat Society"
Her parents and her husband, Louis, preceded her in death.
Betty is survived by her children, Gary (Carol Tomb) Lathrum, Urbandale, Rick (Robin) Lathrum, Gilbert, AZ, LuAnn (Joe) Klein, Bettendorf, Alesia (Brad Butler) Wright, Indianola. Her grandchildren, Ryan (Stephen Caesar) Lathrum, Jersey City, NJ, Jason Lathrum, Mesa, AZ, Lindsay (Mike) Marsh, San Diego, CA, Karly Schmidt, Kansas City, MO, Bryce Wright, Indianola, Kelsey (Nick) Sundet, Kansas City, MO, Matthew (Ashley) Lathrum, Mitchellville, Brett (Whitney Sandy) Wright, Indianola, Benjamin Wright, Hanford, CA, Joe (Leah) Butler, Indianola, Peter Butler, Indianola and Keith (Christa) Butler, Indianola. Great grandchildren, Peyton Lathrum and Grady Butler. Betty is also survived by her brother, Ray (Eloise) Ackley, Mesa, AZ and many nieces and nephews.
