Fannie was the wife of Charlie Hutto and mother to Troy, John, Mamie Lee and Charlie, Jr.
She was raised by Josephine and Archie Gautney. Little is known about her life until the Gautney's took her in.
The 1880 US Federal Census lists a Mat Whitlock living in Ashville/Old Town, St Clair Co, Al, age 55 and born abt 1825 with Jerry Whitlock age 5 and Fanny Whitlock age 2. Mat lists himself as father of the children, married but no wife is listed. The census states Mat is crippled in the feet and Fanny has deformed feet. There is a 50 yo black woman, Mira Reaves and a 10 yo white child named Ella Michel living in the household. Mat lists his occupation as "pauper". Further research shows the Mat, Jerry and Fanny are living in a "poor-house" near Ashville, AL. The children's mother is listed as dead, perhaps from complications of childbirth, Fannie is only 14 months old. Both Children were born there, not abandoned by father but eligible for adoption. The Gautney's are also living in Ashville/Old Town per 1880 census. What became of little Jerry and their father I don't know but Arch and Josephine adopted Fannie, I don't know the year. The 1870 Census in the same area lists a Madison and Amanda Whitlock, both listed as "paupers" living with a family named Mize. I believe these are Fannie's biological parents. 2 other unrelated people living there are also listed as "paupers".

From the 1880 census we learned that Madison (Mat) was crippled and could not read or write. How severe his disability was and when it occurred is unknown but since 1840 he was unemployed and living on "welfare" and "public housing".
Charlie and Fannie were married 24 Dec 1894 in Talladega Co, Al by James S Davis, Justice of the Peace with the Gautney's as witness along with Ivy Hutto, Charlies father and Sarah F. Hutto, Charlies step mother.
The 1990 US Federal Census find Charlie and Fannie living in Blue Eye, Talladega Co with sons Troy Alfred age 4, John Monroe age 2 and baby Mamie Lee age 2 mo. They are living next door to his older brother Oliver Hutto and his family. The Gautney's old Bible lists a 4th child Charlie Jr. born 17 Sept 1901.
According to the old Gautney Bible, baby Mamie Lee died 14 Oct 1900 at 7 mo and Fannie's husband Charlie died 22 May 1901 with Fannie 5 mo pregnant with baby Charlie. Charlie Jr lived 19 mo and died 11 Jun 1903 and Fannie died aprox. 6 months later. Charlie was 26 and Fannie was 24 at the time of their deaths, cause unknown, leaving their 2 surviving boys orphans at 6 and 8 years of age.
Josephine and Archie stepped raised Troy and John to adulthood. After Charlie's death, Fannie may have went to live with Arch and Josephine.
Fannie and Charlie are buried in unmarked graves at Patton Chapel, with his mother, Nancy Austin Hutto and his grandparents, Henry and Louisa Hutto, along with various other Hutto uncles, aunts and cousins.
Josephine and Archie Gautney are buried at Eastaboga Cemetery along with John and his wife Edna. Troy is buried at Forestlawn Cemetery in Anniston Al.
