Elsie Coon, age 85, of Huron, died Thursday, March 10, 2011, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be at 10:30 AM, Monday, March 14th, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Donald Crippen officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 8:00 PM, Sunday, March 13th, at the Kuhler Funeral Home with her family present from 3:00 to 5:00 PM Sunday evening. A prayer service will be held at 5:00 PM, Sunday evening, at the Kuhler Funeral Home.
Elsie Kuhns was born August 12, 1925, to Harold and Velda (Thompson) Kuhns at Huron. She received her education at Huron. She married Everett Coon at Huron, on March 19, 1956. Elsie was a farmer and worked as a cook at the Custer School. She also did cleaning for the Farmers and Merchants Bank. Elsie liked to cook and bake, and taught her grandchildren how to cook. She was affectionately known as the family barber. Elsie enjoyed spending time with family, telling stories, playing the piano and the accordion.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Ron Coon in 1992; three brothers, George, Earl, and Elden Kuhns; two sisters-in-law, Lyda Kuhns and Shan Kuhns; and two brothers-in-law, Lowell Edwards and Don Busch.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her son, Rick (Darla) Coon of Huron; six grandchildren, Jeremy Coon, Darmi Coon, Ronnica Coon, Kelsey Coon, Kendra Coon, and Katie Coon; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Delores (Dean) Kasperson, Marvis Edwards, and Verla Busch, all of Huron; one brother, A. R. "Bud" (Betty) Kuhns of Huron; one sister-in-law, Bonnie Kuhns of Huron; and many nieces and nephews.
