Henry was the son of Rufus and Caroline Wheeler Newton.

He was a pioneer trucking man, the second man to own a motor truck in Perry. He was employed in the draying and hauling business for most of his life, with the exception of six years when he was employed by the Silver Springs Salt Company. He retired in 1927.

November 25, 1888 he was united in marriage to Marcia Agard of North Cohocton. She passed away in March of 1944.

He was survived by one daughter, Mrs. Myrtle VanArsdale of Perry; one sister, Mrs. Olive VanScoter; two nephews, Otto and Harry VanScoter of Perry.
