From the 13 Nov 1891 Van Wert, Ohio, Times: "The many friends of Mr. Michael Ossing, of this place, were astonished to learn of his sudden death, which occurred at an early hour last Saturday morning at the home of A. B. Alspaugh in Ridge township, where the deceased had been engaged at work the previous day apparently in the best of health. Death resulted from heart disease. Mr. Ossing, with his parents, moved from Dermsford, Germany to this country in 1833, when five years old, and in 1855 he removed to this county, where he resided ever since. A widow, two sons and four daughters besides numerous other relatives and friends mourn the unexpected departure of a loving husband and father and an honored citizen. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon from St. Peter's church, followed by interment in Woodland cemetery."

Changed the spelling of his last name from Assing to Ossing. Immigrated from Germany on 10/01/1834 into Baltimore, Maryland.

Veteran of the Civil War as a Private in Co. A 54th Ohio Inf. from 5 January 1864 to 15 August 1865.
