Clyde D. Marcellus, 89, a lifelong Syracuse area resident, living most of those years in Bridgeport, died Saturday, July 16, 2011, at a Raleigh, NC, nursing home. Clyde was a U.S. Army veteran serving in WW II and a graduate of Syracuse University. After working his entire career at Allied Chemical, he retired in 1980 as superintendent of public relations. Clyde was a member of First Baptist Church of Syracuse, enjoyed watching Syracuse University athletics and was an avid bowler and golfer for all but the last years of his life. He was predeceased by his wife, S. Elizabeth Johnson Marcellus, in 1994, and his second wife, Carolyn McClaran Marcellus, in 2002. Surviving are his brother and sister-in-law, Don and Carol Marcellus; children, Mark Marcellus (Marsha Appel) of Port Washington, NY, Brenda Asmar (Peter) of Apex, NC, and Gregg Marcellus (Carol Jackson) of Chapel Hill, NC; as well as one nephew; three nieces; and five grandchildren. A graveside service at Fayetteville Cemetery will be arranged at a later date.
