Mrs. Ernest (Elsie A.) Grebner, 79, of Franklin Street, Scales Mound, died Wednesday, August 1 at St. Joseph's Unit of Mercy Medical Center after a long illness.
She was born July 23, 1900 at Guilford Township, the daughter of the late Henry and Lena Roth Schmidt and was united in marriage to Ernest Grebner in 1919. She assisted her husband in the owning and operating of the Ernest Grebner General Merchandise Store in Scales Mound from 1930 until her retirement in 1960.
She was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Schapville, the A.L.C.W. of the Church, Home Extension, American Legion Auxiliary, and Republican Women's Club.
Survivors include her husband Ernest, two sons, Lee, of Davenport, Iowa; and Delos, of Danville, Calif.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, one sister, and one brother.
Services were held at 1:30pm Saturday, Aug. 4, in Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church with the Rev. John Dexter, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Steinke Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
