Married Henriette Marie Louise Koch on November 26, 1850 in Hindenburg, Germany.

According to his daughter Dorothea's obituary, he immigrated to the United States on 16 November 1884. His wife died in Germany.

Joachim and Henriette had eight children, all of whom were born in Germany. If known, I list the German spelling of the names. Once they immigrated to the U.S., the names were anglicized.

1. Sophia Bohnsack Kuhse
b. 22 January 1850
m. August Kuhse

2. Johann Joachim Christian Bohnsack
b. 29 February 1852
(Family history has him dying in Germany. Not sure if he lived to adulthood.)

3. Henrietta Marie Helene Bohnsack Schuldt
b. 02 April 1854
m. Heinrich Christoph Christian "Henry" Schuldt
(I believe both are buried in Scales Mound Township Cemetery in Scales Mound, Jo Daviess county, Illinois. I haven't been able to confirm this.)

4. Joachim Heinrich Friedrich Bohnsack
b. 06 May 1856
m1. Christine Maria "Marie" Peters
m2. Frederika "Recha" Wink Marburger Fetzner Palmer

5. Carl Hermann Bohnsack [twin]
