Laurence H. Gowen, age 68, of Braintree, Massachusetts, died suddenly on February 23, 2007 at Boston, Massachusetts.
He attended local schools, and Nasson College.
Over the years he worked in theatres as a stagehand, becoming the 'master carpenter'
of the Wang Center of the Performing Arts in Boston. He was a retired member of I.A.T.S.E. Local 11 Stagehands.

BIOGRAPHY - Sanford Tribune:

Laurence enrolled in a pre-med program at Nasson College for two years, then went into the U.S. Navy Medical Corps in 1959 for four years. He was graduated from the Navy Hospital Corps school with the highest mark ever achieved, 99.98, and went on for further training becoming an operating room nurse.
He proudly served his country as a medic
in the United States Navy.
His desire, as a teenager, to be in the theatre never wavered, and on his discharge from the Navy, he went to New York City and the stage.
He was hired by Boston University as technical director of the theater department, then went with the Opera Company of Boston. He staged shows at the White House during Lyndon Johnson's presidency.
In 1974-1975 he served as technical director
at Northeast University; then went into the private professional theater sector.
He worked on the Brinks robbery movie; the movie 'Yes Georgio'; he supervised the the stage work for Yul Brynner in 'The King and I'; he directed the stage work of 'Camelot'; he worked with Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor in 'Private Lives'; plus a myriad of other ballet, opera, musical, and rock stars as a technician.
