Andy was the second child of twelve born in Altavilla Milicia Sicily to Antonino and Maria LoBosco Dugo. He arrived in the US on the SS Perugia with his mother and brother Antonio on 15 Nov 1909, and joined his father in Pittsburgh. Andy traveled as a young adult, met Marie Lagnese in Pittsburgh, got married and eventually became a journalist and features writer with the Pittsburgh Post Gazette. He and Marie never had children. She preceded him in death in 1987. He was a delightful man still sharp and witty well into his 90's when I met him.

Andrew B. Dugo, 97, of Shadyside, died Friday, July 25, 2003. Born Sept. 13, 1905, in Sicily, he was the beloved husband of the late Marie A. (Lagnese) Dugo; brother of the late Rosella (Dugo) Kelly, Eleanor Dugo and Thomas Dugo. He is survived by two sisters, Roseanne (Dugo) Bilitho of Orange City, Fla., and Marie (Dugo) Abbott of Carmichael, Pa.; also a brother, Verner B. Dugo (Marcella) of Ormond Beach, Fla.; two sisters-in-law, Margaret (Lagnese) Moore and Nelda (Lagnese) Samuels; many nieces, nephews and friends who will dearly miss him. Andy was a former writer with the International News Service in New York; the Greenwich Village News; Erie Gazette; Homestead Messenger, Pittsburgh; Sun-Telegraph; Las Vegas Review Journal; and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He was a graduate of Columbia, Georgetown and Duquesne universities. He also was a life long member of St. Lawrence O'Toole Church in Garfield, the American Legion Post #5 (East Liberty), Pittsburgh Writers Guild, Communication Workers of America and he was a World War II Army veteran. During his lifetime, Andy received many awards including induction into the Pennsylvania Individual Sports Hall of Fame and the Allegheny County Sports Hall of Fame.
