Obituary

Doloris M. Acela, 81, died Saturday, July 9th, 2011 at Fleur Heights Care Center from complications of Parkinson's disease.

Funeral services will be 11 am Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at McLaren's Chapel in West Des Moines with interment at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service.

She was born in Fairmont, MN on August 9th, 1929 to Dan and Doris McGee. In 1947, Doloris graduated from St. John's High School in Bancroft, IA. After moving to Des Moines she worked as a receptionist for Marquette Cement where she met her future husband Bob Acela. Doloris and Bob were married in 1952 and lived for over fifty years in the house that Bob built himself for her and their family.

They were both devoted members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for over fifty years. Doloris loved being a mother and homemaker and caring for her family. She especially enjoyed preparing large holiday meals for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Doloris was always her children's biggest fan and never missed a soccer match or a Little League game in which they played. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother and member of the P.T.A., as well as being involved in Bluebirds, Camp Fire Girls and Little League Baseball. Doloris was friendly, cheerful and a good neighbor who made sure everyone always had a happy birthday and a Merry Christmas. In the summer she enjoyed picking and preparing fresh vegetables from the garden, as well as riding her bicycle around the neighborhood in the evenings and visiting with her many friends.

Doloris is survived by her three children, Jeannie, Bobby and Jim, grandsons, Damon Lewis and Shawn Hobbs and great-granddaughters, Taylor and Shianne, her sisters Donna (Harvey) Boeckholt and Diane (David) Schiltz, brother-in-law Roger Wilhelmi and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins all of whom she knew loved her greatly and will miss her even more.

She was preceded in death by her parents, several beloved aunts and uncles, her sister Denise Wilhelmi and her husband of 55 years, Bob Acela who died in 2008 at the age of 88.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family in loving memory of Doloris.
