Frederic Clinton Schmidt, age 23, of Wellington and his girl friend, Tracee Nichol Allison, also age 23, of Shamrock, died in a car accident on Thursday, May 23, 1996 near Guthrie.
Frederic was born February 1, 1973 in Emden, Germany to Adolf and Frances Hill Schmidt He attended schools in Wellington, graduating from Wellington High School in 1991 as valedictorian of his class. During high school, Frederic was an All-District football player and played varsity tennis. He received many scholastic and athletic honors, including DAR Good Citizen's Award and Area Representative at the 1990 Texas Energy and Science Symposium in Austin. Frederic was on the student council, class president and served as National Honor Society president.
He was a student at the University of Texas in Austin majoring in mechanical engineering. He was a candidate for his bachelor's degree in the fall of 1996. During his college years, he participated in the Engineering Coop Program working as an engineer intern at Applied Materials in Austin. Frederic was a member of Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Fraternity and Phi Eta Sigma Honor Fraternity. He attended the Methodist Church.
Survivors include his parents: Adolph and Frances Schmidt of Wellington; one brother, and sister-in-law, Britt and Helen Schmidt of Boston, MA; and his grandmothers, Olivia Hill of Wellington and Meta Schmidt of Emden, Germany.
