This is the William Pearce said by many to have been born in 1838 and died 18 Mar 1800. Those dates are based on reading his tombstone that way.
But that date of death seems inconsistent with the known fact that William's estate entered administration 3 May 1806.
A close inspection of his tombstone supports the idea that it really says he died 18 Mar 1806 -- that the very right edge of the tombstone has been eroded making what was a 6 look, arguably, like a 0.
A date of death of March 1806 is quite consistent with then having an estate that entered administration in May 1806.
If he died in 1806, a better date of birth for him, then, is 1744.
