de CROM – Wilhelmina Maria "Wilma" (nee van der Weijst)
February 3, 1926 – July 14, 2011

Wilma passed away at her daughter's home, surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her husband Peter de Crom on April 17, 2009.

Wilhelmina was born in Bergeijk, Netherlands and immigrated with Peter and her eldest two children in 1953 to Crossfield, later moving to Calgary and Springbank where they remained for the rest of their lives. She raised her seven children as well as caring for thirty-four foster children over many years. She worked hard on the farm, growing her own vegetables, baking bread and cooking for so many. There was always room for a few more … drop-ins welcomed. She was strong, proud, giving, honest, humble, stubborn, really Dutch and so very funny. Wilma was a proud lifelong member of the CWL. She and Peter had many friends from their many years in Shepherd and their membership at the Springbank Heritage Club created a wonderful community of friends for them later in life.

Wilma is remembered with love by her seven children, Maria de Crom, Johanna (Dave) Thompson, Frank (Michelle) de Crom, Betty (Theo) Jacobs, Ted (Kate) de Crom, Theresa (Kees) de Waal, and Audrey (Matthew) Takoski. She also leaves behind sixteen grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by her parents and four siblings in Holland.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Lodge at Valley Ridge for the extra loving care they gave our parents as well as our amazing sister Johanna and her husband Dave for taking Mom into their home and providing her with such loving care for the last months of her life. We also thank God for sending Caridad to help us with such compassion at the end. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to Easter Seals Alberta, 103, 811 Manning Road N.E., Calgary AB T2E 7L4 Telephone: 403-235-5662.

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.), on Monday, July 18, 2011 at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Michael Catholic Community Church, 800 – 85 Street S.W. on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens. You may forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
