Obituary of Rose Catherine Castelin McKellar

Rose Catherine Castelin McKellar, age 74, of Long Beach, MS, passed away on July 13, 2011. She was born January 2, 1937, in Pass Christian, MS.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph John Castelin and Beulah Mary Cuevas Castelin; her brother, Joseph Anthony Castelin; her sister, Betty Lois Castelin Carter; and her brother, Fred William Castelin.

She is survived by her daughter, Catherine Anne McKellar, of Long Beach, MS and her two sons, James Michael Moore and John Mark Moore; her son, Charles Patrick McKellar and wife, Andrea Taylor McKellar, of Nashville, TN and their two sons, Maclan Campbell McKellar and Boden Hale McKellar; her former husband, Charles Fortson McKellar, of Ocean Springs, MS; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was a graduate of Mercy Hospital School of Vicksburg, MS. She began her nursing career as an emergency room nurse at Gulfport Memorial Hospital. She later held leadership positions at the University Hospital in Jackson, MS, where her stellar career included head nurse of the emergency room; administrative assistant of the recovery room, intensive care unit, and the emergency room; and acting Director of Nursing Service. She mentored those within her realm and others who sought her counsel. She was admired and respected for her fair-minded, sensitive, logical, and common-sense approach to patient care, problem-solving, and to life itself. She was a mother whose love and devotion to the welfare of her children was absolute. She was a friend without equal who made the difference in the lives of those blessed by her spirit.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2011, at 10:00am at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 19130 Commission Road in Long Beach, where family and friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Southern Memorial Park in Biloxi.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society , 417 Security Square, Gulfport, MS 39507 or to Odyssey Hospice, 9414 Three Rivers Road, Ste. 3, Gulfport, MS 39503.
