Frances Elisa De Forest and her brother John S. De Forest were fraternal twins. In the 1850 Chatham, Morris Co., NJ census, they were living with the Baxter & Elizabeth Sayre family. Their mother Charlotte, who died in 1856 of TB, had given birth to them while in her late 30's. By 1860, they had moved back home with their father Reuben, aunt Julia De Forest (widow of Daniel), and brother Walter. I don't know where Frances was in 1870 when she would have been about 22, but on 26 Aug. 1871 she married James J. Dunn in Chatham, then in 1880 they were living in Chatham. She was listed as "Fannie DeForest" on her marriage record.

Emma Frances Dunn, who might have been their eldest child was born in 1874. Although Frances came from a Presbyterian family, she may have converted to Catholicism for this marriage.
