"Henry Greer was born on 11 October 1769 in Bedford , Virginia. He died on 1 March 1849 in Lowndes , Mississippi. "Father (Henry Greer) was born October 11, 1769. He deceased in March the first 1849." (Actual Copy of page of Bible of Stephen Greer, owned by Charles McCulloch, Brazos , Texas, supplied by Mrs. Olive Ruth Nabors, 704 Avondale, Bryan, Texas 77802, via Mary Lee Barnes, 1996.) (Note from Ralph Terry: Greer Kinsmen by J. B. Bell, page 40 gives the death date for Henry Greer as 14 February 1849, which differs from the Bible date of March 1, 1849.)

"The family of Henry Greer moved to Mississippi around 1818 and lived on land that later became the Columbus Air Base. There is a small cemetery on this land. Henry, Sr was the inventor of the "Mississippi Rifle" which became the official rifle of the Confederacy in the Civil War. Henry Greer, Sr and his family lived near Isaac Morgan and his family in Humphrey , Tennessee. Both families came to Monroe/Lowndes, Mississippi and were next plantation neighbors. Two Greer sons married two Morgan daughters." (Information from Monroe Newspaper, 2 June 1966 by George W. Howell, Jr.; "Family Records of Mississippi Revolutionary Soldiers," page 128; Greer Family research of Mr. L. L. McNees (deceased), Ebenezer, Mississippi; Joe Tillery, 5617 Earle Street, San Gabriel, California 91776 as reported in "Greer Kinsmen" by J. B. Bell.)

Henry Greer was first married to Susannah Hatcher in 1792. He married Susannah Tillery on 14 Dec 1795 in Oglethorpe , Georgia. Susannah Tillery was the daughter of Joshua Tillery and Susannah Ziegler and was born on 10 September 1777 in Culpeper, Virginia. She died on 17 July 1824 in Monroe , Mississippi.
