Everett Oscar Matson was the second son and fifth of seven children born to August M. Matson (1868-1950) and his wife Augusta Olivia Brand (1870-1938). He was born near Lafayette, Illinois, but his family moved to a large farm near Kiester, Faribault Co., Minnesota in 1913.
Everett's parents had both been born in Sweden, and came to America as teenagers in the 1880s. His paternal grandmother was Mrs. Anna Matilda Matson (1828-1908, who also came to America as a widow.) His maternal grandparents were Johan August Brand (1842-1926) and his wife Johanna Vilhelmina Lund (1846-1925), who remained in Sweden.
Everett married Stella Thelma Amosson 27 Jan. 1913-18 Dec. 1993). She was a daughter of Osmund Ammossen and his wife Sadie Weland, of Iowa. Everett and Stella lived in Washington State. They had three children, David Everett Matson, Sharon Matson and Joyce E. Matson (Mrs. Shoemake).
