Highlights of his career included the founding of the WUHS Jazz Festival, leading the band in East Coast performances for the 1976 Bicentennial Celebration, and heading the Jazz Band Tour of Europe. Outside of teaching, Bob was known as an avid fisherman, recognized twice by the state for catching the largest Golden Trout in California. He enjoyed gardening and driving his 1931 Model A Ford. Bob was also an active member of the Wasco Elks Lodge. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, William Bangs; and his daughters, Susan Hoffmann and Kathy Whitaker.
